Weekend Wedding Destination Series: New England

If you’re looking for an enchanting place to host your love-filled weekend, look no further! From Highlands, North Carolina and Charleston, South Carolina to Boston, Massachusetts, we’re diving into our next top wedding destination by exploring the quaint small towns and history-filled region of New England. With its timeless charm and coastal views, New England is home to pristine backdrops and ever-changing seasons that make this northeastern territory home perfect for hosting celebrations all year round.

As wedding planners, we’re always on the lookout for striking locations and these ones did NOT disappoint. Here’s our list of favorites to help you journey through these must-see spots, if you’re considering this as a contending place to host your day!

Wedding Weekend Venues

New England is quintessentially beautiful, embodying the perfect blend of historical elegance with its natural beauty and is far from lacking breathtaking scenery fit for any occasion. From colonial-era mansions in Rhode Island and rustic venues in Vermont to the city views of Boston, couples are destined to find a setting that perfectly fits the vision of their day.

Some of our favorite Rhode Island locations for your wedding celebration included Castle Hill Inn and their sister property The Bohlin. If you are looking for a classic waterfront ceremony and Sperry sailcloth tent then your search can truly end here. While Castle Hill is definitely a refined luxury, The Bohlin creates a more relaxed laid back approach directly on the wharf. Next, we absolutely adored The Chanler at Cliff Walk. Just slightly removed from the bustle of downtown and Thames Street, The Chanler gives you the opportunity to rent the whole property for an incredibly intimate and exclusive celebration. We couldn’t get over the views from the gardens and all of the different ways to use the space.

With breathtaking scenery and diverse options, couples are sure to find the perfect setting to bring their wedding vision to life. We believe these remarkable locations will not only captivate your guests but also create a magical experience that you’ll cherish for years to come. We loved these settings for their unique character and think you will, too!

Where to Stay

Whether you’re seeking a cozy bed and breakfast or prefer a more glamorous luxury hotel, there are plenty of must-see options available. The plethora of stays in the area quickly range from classic and original to modern and innovative but, regardless of your select style, Newport, RI is sure to have accommodation to match your needs.

One of the newest gems in Newport is the Gardiner House. Quickly rising to one of the most popular places, we loved the way there was a cozy library bar on the main level and a rooftop restaurant with stunning harbor views. It’s also the perfect location to walk throughout Thames Street and beyond easily. If you are looking for the classic historic charm, then we have to say The Chanler gives you just that. With a private entrance to the famous Cliff Walk and steps to the beach, this 19th century mansion will have you stepping back in time to full relaxation.

These stays have quickly made their way to the top of our list and are must-sees when you visit the area. No matter your choice, a visit to New England promises memorable experiences and a perfect retreat that reflects the charm of this coastal gem.

Things to Do

You and your guests are sure to be entertained by the surplus of activities and attractions to discover in this area of the US. From exploring historic sites and museums to relaxing on the various shores and beaches, New England is a treasure trove of iconic indoor and outdoor opportunities to fill your weekend itineraries.

If you’re looking for festivities to WOW your guests, then don’t miss these unforgettable adventures. Cliff Walk is a scenic 3.5 mile walkway that hugs the edge of Newports shoreline and gives you a glimpse of some famous mansions. And if you really want to get close up to some of the wealthiest homes, we have a few in mind that you should try. The Breakers was commissioned in 1893 by railroad tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt II. This 70 room mansion displays Italian marble, ornate gold ceilings, French antique furnishings and fixtures, diamonds, rubies and other precious gems encrusted in the walls - the list goes on! Some other incredible homes you tour would be Rough Point, Marble House and Rosecliff. If you are fan of Tennis, the International Tennis Hall of Fame is located here. Easton’s beach is where you can catch a few rays of sun before the big day or head out on a boat and enjoy the New England coastline from another view.

Where to Eat

New England’s culinary scene is not to be missed and offers a delightful blend of traditional flavors and delicious dishes. From the hearty, comforting classics like clam chowder and lobster rolls to fresh farm-to-table delights, the region’s food embodies a deep connection to its coastal and rural roots.

After all, what trip is complete without savoring all of the local cuisine?

When it comes to food favorites, Newport Restaurant Group definitely knows their way around a kitchen. We loved grabbing an outdoor lunch of lobster rolls at 22 Bowens and watching tour groups board their boats along Bowen’s Wharf. Another restaurant a part of the group and 100% employee owned is Bar’Cino. While you can’t go wrong with anything on their menu, we couldn’t leave a single slice of their prosciutto and fig grilled pizza behind. And when you need the morning pick me up, we highly recommend The Nitro Bar on Thames Street. Depending on the time of the day, the line can be out the door, but we promise it is worth the wait. You can grab a traditional coffee or splurge on a seasonal craft drink. We couldn’t get enough of their breakfast sandwiches.

Exploring the local eateries not only satisfied our appetite but also deepened our connection to this charming coastal destination.

An Unforgettable Coastal Getaway

If you’re seeking a perfect mix of historic charm and natural beauty, with a touch of New England elegance, then this may be the ideal destination for you!

As you explore its picturesque landscapes, dine on fresh seafood, and immerse yourself in its unique traditions, you’ll see why this region remains a top choice for unforgettable experiences.

Embrace the allure of New England, and create cherished memories that will last a lifetime in this remarkable region.
