Favorite flowers for spring celebrations

Spring weddings are my absolute favorite. I truly believe it is the perfect way to stretch and celebrate after a cold winter. That may be my New England background coming out, but I am definitely not a cold weather person. I love spring and summer, one of the reasons for moving to Savannah, Georgia.

The freshness in the air, the blooming florals, the warm sun and the added time in each day - there really is nothing better than a spring celebration.

When it comes to planning your spring wedding, there are so many gorgeous selections of florals at your disposal. It would seem that almost everything is available and at your fingertips, and really it is. Here are some of my favorite Spring flower selections for your event:

hydrangea

Gosh I love the simplicity and fullness of these flowers. I love how versatile they can be as well. They can be the base of your arrangement with other luxury blooms flowing out or it can be a lush rounded stand alone that add volume for not a ton of money. I am always reminded of these flowers when they are in full bloom on the bush. I love the pop of colors against the deeper green leaves. They scream, “look at me and see my beauty” completely unapologetically and effortlessly. In New England we see these bloom in early summer and that to me was always the sign that warmth was officially here. Down in the south, we get a double bloom - once in the spring and although they can’t handle the summer heat, we get an extra bloom in the fall as the humidity starts to break.

Lily of the Valley

Lily of the Valley is such a beautifully delicate bloom that adds a touch of formality and a classic touch to your event. This flower can be popular for weddings as it is thought to be a symbol of rebirth, luck in love and a return of happiness. These flowers do not come cheap due to their delicate nature, they have a short lifespan and can be difficult to harvest. Nonetheless, if you have the budget to use this flower, you will not regret it. Your bouquet or arrangement will be elevated immensely and you will be among the company of many Royals that have used this beautiful flower.

Peonies

Peonies have been crowned the bridal bloom favorite for a reason. They are lush with romantic petals layers and the expansive range of colors, allowing flexibility with many color palettes. These springtime and early summer blooms have a small season, making them a more expensive floral to choose and some people decide to use them sparingly. They do, however, last for weeks as small tight buds when cut before full bloom in a refrigerator and several days after bloom in a vase and water. This allows for ample time for your florist to arrange, for them to be show stoppers on your day, to post celebration enjoyment at home. Peonies also have a beautiful scent which adds to the ambiance and their appeal.

Tulips

Tulips are the symbol of spring arrival. It is on my list to be in the Netherlands for the blooming of these gorgeous flowers, although they are native to central Asia. These florals are so chic with their clean lines and with more than 3,000 varieties available, we are sure to find a color or style that works for almost any design. There is an elegance and grace with these flowers that is perfect for a timeless wedding look and feel. For those spring events that might want a more organic feel, I love to use the fringed tulip variety where the petals have a beautiful frayed edge adding texture and dimension.

Ranunculus

Ranunculus is another wedding favorite with availability and access most of the year; these layered beauties complement many different design styles. I love the color variety available as well as the layering of the petals, this allows for a cost effective floral that spans every style from earthy and organic to soft and romantic to whimsical and bright. These blooms can be used with short stems in a tight arrangement or with long stems bent to shape and pop out to add height and length to an arrangement. These blooms add a romantic, happy and textured tone to any arrangement for your spring event or home.

Garden Roses

Garden Roses, I really a beautiful garden rose. Roses are the classic symbol of love and an iconic wedding day floral. Roses have thousands of varieties, just like other florals, making them extremely diverse. Garden Roses, in particular, are of my favorite for spring weddings. They allow for a variety of colors, they have a beautiful texture and layering in the petals that mirror the feeling of a peony. There is something extremely elegant, timeless and romantic about a beautiful lush garden rose. I cringe when I hear a bride say she doesn’t like roses or doesn’t want them because they are too ‘typical.’ I promise if we add garden roses, you are going to be happy.

So there you have it, some of my favorite and go-to spring flowers for your next event or even to have in your home. I love having fresh flowers in my home throughout the year. It adds fresh life, fragrance and truly helps elevate the energy in the space. As you can see, I love flowers that come in a variety of colors, they add texture and even a subtle fragrance.
