5 small things making the most impact

There are obvious big things that make your wedding day stand out to all of the rest, like venue, food and music. But what are those elements that seem so small you think, ‘why should we put money towards that?’ Here are five elements that might seem like not a big deal when you are planning and designing your wedding, but actually are.

linens

Sure your venue has house linens and that may be a place that you can save money, but it is one place your guests will be spending a good chunk of the time looking at. *cue keeping speeches to a minimum* Linens are a wonderful place to spend a little more money for much more of an impact. You can choose a bold color or pattern that then allows you to keep your centerpieces to a minimalistic approach. Or you can keep the venues’ basics, as long as they go all of the way to the floor, but spend a small amount on upgrading your napkins to add a pop of color to your tables. You could also choose specific tables that you want to stand out, like your head table or cake and add patterns there. Strategic placement of your money is the best way to design while staying on track. Below we have these all in play, colorful napkins on house linens, gorgeous textured linens with house napkins and upgraded everything for a truly polished look.

chairs

Another area you think, ‘the wedding venue has chairs that are fine.’ Wrong. Most venue chairs are either outdated, overused or just don’t work with your look. Think about when you walk into your wedding reception. What will you see the most of? What will be in the background of all of your photos while you dance around the dance floor? The chairs. Sure comfort is key as well, Grandma is going to want a cushion while she takes breaks from the dance floor. Think of being able to upgrade your chairs to really match the look and feel of your wedding day to add to your unique style. Another pro-tip, don’t be afraid to mix and match. Below, we mixed two styles of chairs based on the type of table the guest was sitting at, then the fruitwood chiavari was the perfect compliment to the wood tones that surrounded our venue to add warmth for the winter wedding and finally, for an intimate affair, tufted chairs allowed for everyone to feel like they were sitting at the dining room table at home.

Bridal Bouquet or Boutonnieres

One of the most photographed items of the day besides the couple themselves. The bridal bouquet and boutonnieres are in almost every photo that you will hang in your home and used in detail shots to help compliment your overall wedding album. Make sure you really are selecting a size that doesn’t overwhelm you, florals and textures that compliment your dress or suit and colors that embody the season that you are in. Special hint for those with a bouquet - it will be with you for most of the day, make sure it is something you are going to love to look at over and over again and it's not too big to carry.

shoes

Small but mighty. You are on your feet most of the day, from walking down the aisle, to photos, and dancing. There are only a few pockets of time that you get to rest your feet. If you pick wedding shoes that are absolutely gorgeous, but you can’t walk in, don’t fit correctly or are not the best for the environment of your wedding venue, you may struggle. That will unfortunately translate to your photos and your video. Remember to break your shoes in and leave enough time to buy new if you need to. Think through your day, will you be walking on the lawn at Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina or are you hosting a city wedding in Downtown Savannah, Georgia with the brick and cobble streets? What is your personal style - do you hate heels, then don’t wear them. We are also huge fans of switching shoes, something unique and personal, because let’s face it, comfort is key.

vendor team

So you’ve followed some favorite vendors for a while, you’ve done your research, aligned the budgets, and you think you’ve picked your group of people. Wonderful, but the only problem is that you don’t fully align on the vision, or you don’t find them as responsive as you wish. Or the worst, you just find something off but can’t put your finger on it. Follow that gut feeling and keep researching. It doesn’t matter which category of vendor you are thinking about, you need to have full trust to ensure you enjoy every moment of your wedding day. If you don’t, you will be stressed thinking about things that you shouldn't even be worrying about. That is why here at Allison Event Design, we work with you on curating a list of wedding vendors that fully align in vision, budget and accountability. We ensure your wedding day goes smoothly so that you can take in each moment, because to us that is what is most important - you enjoying your day!
