2022 Wedding Trends
The end of the year is upon us, a time where we review what our 2021 looked like and contemplate what we would like moving forward. Where are we going individually and collectively? What trends do we see in fashion and interiors that might make their way into the wedding and event world? What trends will continue to pick up steam and push even further into the 2022 wedding season? After we reviewed our weddings at Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina this past year, and asked around to what others in the Savannah wedding professionals in the industry were seeing, we’ve come up with our top five trends that we see coming down the wedding street:
Baby’s breath
Yes this simple yet timeless floral is making a comeback in big ways. We are making lush and fluffy bouquets, and statement pieces to really make a one-of-a-kind floral WOW. Look at how beautiful Lizzy’s all baby’s breath bouquet with a long Carolina Blue silk ribbon just popped. And one of our most intimate wedding ceremonies this past year - a stunning arch of baby’s breath really framing our couple so perfectly. We aren’t the only ones seeing this subtle bloom take off and although we were a little conflicted at first, we are loving the simplicity in its beauty.
colored glassware
This trend has taken steam over the last year and we really don’t see it slowing down one bit. Colored glassware is the perfect way to bring out more texture and extend the details of your tablescape. Green and blue were used the most for us, but don’t think we’ll be missing a blush touch soon. Another reason we love this trend is due to the textures they bring beyond the scope of your florals. It shows your guests that you intentionally thought about every detail of their experience at your wedding celebration. Here are some perfect examples of letting the glassware speak for itself.
open air spaces
Outside portions of the celebration are not just for cocktail hour anymore. We had many couples opt for open air and alfresco dinner and dancing evenings. This gives everyone plenty of fresh air and space when Covid is still a concern for some while also allowing everyone to fully connect with the beautiful nature that surrounds us. There are so many unique ways to enhance the natural views you may have access to or simply create more of. A few tips with moving outside, make sure you review if you have any restrictions- can you hang from any trees or are there ones you are not allowed to touch? Can you stake into the ground or are there water lines that we need to be cautious of? Do we need to build a catering area to ensure your food is still perfect? Whether you are organically hanging lights from the surrounding trees or building a structure for guests to sit under, always make sure to have a back up plan. You never really know what might happen with the weather, especially if you are planning your wedding a year in advance, so be sure to have a back up plan that you love as much as the original so it doesn’t hurt if you have to make the switch.
Bright Bold Color Palettes
White and green will always be a classic wedding look, but this year we will see a lot more bold and bright color palettes. Pops of orange spray roses and lush pink peonies play so beautifully together for spring and summer celebrations. Textured florals like Protea and thistle add so much uniqueness to your arrangements and again add those details of thoughtful creation. With Pantone releasing the color of the year - Very Peri - a beautiful play on hues ranging from periwinkle blue to violet red undertones, be on the lookout for everyone's interpretation of what this color can transform into. I predict we will see everything from linens, florals and lighting to help us replicate this active and flowy color.
Unique Cakes
Over the last year, we saw less and less naked cakes and nearly naked. Instead we are loving the more is better approach when it comes to your cake decorating. A big wedding trend we see picking up steam in 2022 is dried flowers and hand painted cakes. This is another area to ensure you are bringing in design details and showcasing some personality. Although we are seeing less of a full cake cutting announcement with couples choosing to privately cut their cake with maybe parents close by, it is still a focal point for guests to see what it looks like and for you to enjoy the photos for years to come.
